Bill Barilko was a Canadian hockey player who famously scored the winning goal in overtime to give the Toronto Maple Leafs the Stanley Cup in 1952. He then disappeared on a fishing trip the following summer when his plane went down. His body wasn't discovered until 1962 the next time the Maple Leafs won the Stanley Cup. A Canadian legend, he is immortalized in a superb rock song by The Tragically Hip.
Bill Barilko disappeared that summer,
he was on a fishing trip.
The last goal he ever scored
won the Leafs the cup
They didn't win another until 1962,
the year he was discovered.
I stole this from a hockey card,
I kept tucked up under
my fifty mission cap,
I worked it in
I worked it in
to look like that
It's my fifty mission cap
his fifty mission cap
I worked it in
I worked it in
I worked it in
to look like that
and I worked it in
to look like that
